Over the past month, we’ve been excited to trial a range of new activities as part of our ongoing ‘Know Your Neighbourhood’ project, which is aimed at fostering stronger connections within our community. This initiative is all about creating inclusive spaces where individuals can come together, build relationships, and feel more connected to those around them.
Alongside the continuation of our well-loved and popular community activities, including Sisters and Stitches, Social Studio, our delightful afternoon teas, and the Cotherstone Gentle Exercise Classes, we’ve introduced several new trials to offer even more variety and opportunities for engagement throughout Teesdale. These include Games Night in Startforth, Ingleton Gentle Exercises, and an upcoming Book Club in Cotherstone. We’re excited to see how these new activities will enrich the lives of those who participate, providing more chances for individuals to discover opportunities that spark connections.
Our commitment to exploring new ways to connect people who may be experiencing loneliness or isolation is at the heart of this project. We’re particularly focused on reaching out to those who are not yet engaging with our lunch clubs or other existing programs. Through our trials, we’ve learned that ‘icebreaker’ activities—such as participating in a craft session, exercise class, or even a friendly games night—have proven incredibly effective at drawing people in.
As we move forward, we remain dedicated to listening to the needs of our community, adjusting our programs to suit the majority, and doing our best to ensure that no one feels left out. We can’t wait to see how these new activities help further strengthen the bonds within our neighbourhood and offer new opportunities for everyone to feel connected.
