Middleton Leader and Club Details
Carole Holliday has led Middleton for the last fourteen years so many of the members will feel like family. Carole has increased the membership lately and the club is thriving.
This year we increased to meeting every week by utilising the Pathway building of the Methodist Church.
Alison Sayer our Chef has also been with us a long time and knows the members likes and dislikes. Alison produces excellent meals and also sells her home baking.

2018 Club Leader Report
2018 got off to a poor start due to the usual winter illnesses, what a difference a few weeks make. We were back to a full house of members in February all recovered and raring to go!
This year we are now in Pathways at the Methodist Chapel on the third Wednesday of the month and the members are delighted that we now provide a lovely lunch every week.
We have had two trips out this year, the first on April 18th and September 12th both to Headlam Hall. The experience was first class! the members/staff volunteers loved it so much the first time that we decided to revisit. Our Teesdale Day Club are so lucky that we receive funding from The Ralph Gowling Trust which enables us to subsidise such visits.
Along with the regular raffles we hold we have also had visits from:
- Community Police Woman Liz Finn who came to give us all a chat about keeping safe not only in your home but also around scams that were currently active in our area. Liz agreed that she would pop in to see us periodically.
- Maggie Wilson from T.A.P. visited to survey our members about their priorities in their life styles. Maggie used a simple tick-box form to gather this information and spent some time talking to our members.
- Richard Wilson from Darlington & Durham Fire Brigade gave an informative talk and advise on all fire safety elements for the home etc. Richard provided lots of leaflets and answered many questions from everyone. Visits to some members homes were arranged for the fitting of fire alarms etc.
All of the speakers above were very professional and spoke in a caring manner with humour.
Our Christmas Party was celebrated on Wednesday 5th December at the Teesdale Hotel in Middleton. 33 members, volunteers and staff all had a wonderful day. As usual lots of merriment and laughter. Many thanks to Wemmergill Estate for their generous donation which helped fund this great day out.
Milestone birthdays celebrated throughout the year were, Annie Graham 90, Peggy Peart 90, Andrew Dennison 65, Lawrie Anderson 85, Frank Kidd 80. Stan Walton requested a 94th birthday celebration and it was pointed out that it was not a milestone birthday, he replied "it is for me Carole as I might not make my 95th". Stan got his wish! I do love the dales humour.
On our last lunch for 2018 S&A Builders Merchants visited to distribute 'goody bags' to all our members. These were provided from funds they had raised throughout the year and were well received and very much appreciated. The mince pies were a treat too.
Many thanks to Alison our resident cook and Tracey for covering. All our volunteers, Alan Thompson our caretaker, Madeleine, Tracy and Pat from the office. Also, many thanks to all our trustees you all do a grand job.
Happy New Year!
