2018 Club Leader Report

We have had another busy year at Staindrop Lunch Club.

We have welcomed some new members which have boosted our numbers a little. Our volunteers remain a vital part of our operation, as we could not do what we do without them. The members, Barbara and I are very grateful for their dedication and hard work.

We have enjoyed a number of trips this year and also a film day -which we shared with Gainford and Barbara served a picnic lunch, with ice cream and popcorn in the interval.

Peter and Joyce Wood organised another Race Day for us, which is always popular, although I always back the horse that seems to like following all the others. We have also enjoyed a few local trips to both the Teesdale Hotel at Middleton and Woodham Golf Club. The members enjoy going out and the journey is as enjoyable as the meal.

The tea shop in Staindrop continues to be a huge support to us, especially if we need to relocate in a hurry.

Thanks to Barbara for an excellent Christmas lunch and to the talented children of Staindrop school who came and entertained us. I particularly appreciate this, as it is a busy time of year for the teachers, but they always find time to bring the children and both generations enjoy being together.

Throughout the year we have had various speakers and entertainment but quite often the thing the members enjoy most is sitting with their friends, enjoying an excellent lunch and just chatting. We have also had the opportunity to buy fresh flowers and plants from a local provider, who gives them to us for nothing. This is a very kind gesture and we sell them for a small price and donate the money to the homeless. The Hall looks like Kew Gardens when they arrive, and the members often need help to get them home!

Both the members and the staff are aware of how hard the trustees are working with future planning and funding, as they are very dedicated to continuing to provide the lifeline we are for many members.

Thank you to the staff in the office who provide quiet, but efficient support and to Madeleine in her role as Community Worker for following up any concerns or problems for the members.
