Cotherstone Leader and Club Details

Michael Carr is the Leader at Cotherstone.  We are lucky to have Dawn Gibson as our Chef who provides excellent food and is always happy to try new cuisine and special events.

We are also lucky to have volunteer drivers that "taxi" members into the club where required. We have a band of loyal volunteers, without whom we could not function.

Cotherstone lunch club hold a raffle on the last Wednesday of every month.

2018 Club Leader Report

Yet again Dawn has served up some memorable meals throughout the year and popular occasions have been celebrated with food. During January we celebrated Burns Night on the 24th. and on the 31st. we marked the Great British Breakfast Day with a wonderful "full English". On St. Valentine's Day in February Dawn created a Chinese New Year celebration meal and also makes a cake for each members birthday and included a 'relighting candle' as a joke for one member.

We had five outings this year. Our first was to Headlam Hall in March, where we were looked after brilliantly by their staff. Next up was a visit to the Teesdale Hotel in Middleton-in-Teesdale in May. For our late summer trip we hired a coach and took members, staff and volunteers to Hexham, where people shopped, visited the magnificent abbey and lunched in various establishments. So impressed were we by the quality and service at Headlam Hall that we went there again at the end of October for another highly enjoyable meal. Our final trip was the Christmas shopping trip to Mainsgill Farm, where we all sat together for lunch before stocking up with Christmas goodies, or, in some cases, having a quiet read of the papers!

The year has had its challenges for some members, and it was great to see Dave Wilson returning to us in February.

As always, we are pleased to welcome new members and we were joined in late summer by Louisa Hammond from Lartington.

I want to say a massive thank you to our team of volunteers without whom we could not manage. The majority of our volunteers are also members, so here's to Myra Atkinson, Sue Roberts, Audrey Siswick, Brenda Thwaites, Gina & Dave Wilson, Pauline Hicks, Hilda Cleasby, Claire Williams; to Jeff Lynn, Peter Atkinson and Peter Wood who volunteer as drivers and welcome and thanks to our new volunteer Debbie Newman. I would also like to say a special thank you to Jane Roberts, my predecessor as Leader, who certainly eased me into the role and stayed on as a volunteer until new employment meant that she could no longer do so. We wish her well and hope that she may be able to visit us at some point.

In November we were visited by two very pleasant people from Well-being UK who are returning in 2019 to offer members various activities. We look forward to enjoying what they bring!

Our Club has again received generous donations from the MR Cannon Charitable Trust and from the Cotherstone Fun Weekend Charities, and, along with other clubs has benefited from financial support through the Association office for trip transport. The kind donations from organisations like this enable us to continue subsidising trips and special events like our wonderful Christmas lunch.

This year our members and volunteers were joined for our Christmas lunch by Tracy from the office and Gary Coppack who does a tremendous amount of work for the Association on our IT system voluntarily. It was good, too, to see Joyce Gargate and Carol Lynn. As always, Dawn did us proud! I would also like to thank S & A Merchants of Barnard Castle for their generous donations of food which they presented to members at our Christmas lunch.
Cotherstone lunch club is always ready to welcome new members and volunteers.

Finally, I would like to thank Madeleine, Pat and Tracy at the office who manage to keep us on the right track and are always very helpful and supportive of staff, members and volunteers.
